My Story

Once upon a time there was a woman that couldn’t cook...

I would peg myself as more crafty then culinary, cooking has never come natural to me. If you asked me to make you a homemade card or write you a poem, then I’m your gal! I can whip that up in a flash and not even break a sweat. But, if you told me right now that I have to bake a pie and my culinary wizard mother-in-law was coming to visit you would send me into a fit of anxiety over the stress of making pie crust. Honestly, I’d probably crack under the pressure, run to the grocery store buy the ones you bake and hope she doesn’t notice the cardboard pie box sitting in the recycling can in the garage. Okay, so maybe if she really loved it I would tell her the truth, maybe.

It’s a good thing my husband loves cereal. He’s opted to have cereal on many nights when my recipes didn’t quite pan out and I’m left in the kitchen staring blankly at the recipe wondering where did I go wrong? But, I’m hoping with my new motivation to learn quick, delicious recipes and separating the good recipes from the bad that it will send his night-time cereal habits back to the breakfast table (where they belong!)

We live in a fast-paced world and our food has adapted to the same rhythm. But if you could have a home-cooked meal in a little bit more time than it takes you to make Kraft Dinner wouldn’t you choose that option instead? Okay so it’s a little more work and you may have a few more dishes but you’ll have a slimmer waist line and more energy so I’d say it’s worth the time trade. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes you just need a little Kraft Dinner, but as a staple meal I’d have to pass.

With our first baby on the way and the impending lack of sleep (and well time) around the corner, I figured it was about time I got meal planning and cooking down to a science. You can call it nesting or just me growing up but I finally feel like I have the motivation to tackle this challenge. Cooking dinner every night and deciding what to make after a full day of work can be overwhelming. I want to take the stress out of meal time by planning and hopefully learn a lot about cooking in the process.

  1. Love it Charly. I can attest to the fact that you never were very interested in cooking. You were always of in a corner writing something in your journal or a piece of paper somewhere, which became quite a collection. Nothing wrong with that but with baby on the way I'm glad to see cooking has stepped up and I'm sure hubby won't mind either, although he does love his cereal. Will be checking to see whats cooking love mom.

  3. Enjoyed the read....

After all these years I still feel I can't cook.
Gord doesn't like trying new things so everday cooking is rather boring so I have to try being creative when feeding the kids and their friends... ha ha...

Looking forward to trying some of the recipes that you post...
